Preparing Players for the 2026 Transition
Over the coming weeks, Omaha Surf will be holding Age Group Training sessions for our players. These sessions are designed to help players gradually adjust to the upcoming changes in youth soccer age group organization. These sessions are open to all players across teh Metro area. Players do not need permission to come and train with us. All have an open invitation to come and train with us to see and feel the difference in what we are doing. Simply show up and ask for directions. Our staff will help you get to the appropriate fields.
Dates and times will be posted below once finalized.
Beginning in Fall 2026, youth soccer in the United States will transition from the Birth Year system to a Grade Year structure. This national change will group players more closely with classmates and peers they attend school with. (For more information, CLICK HERE)
To help our players and families navigate this transition smoothly, we are providing opportunities for players to train with the age group they will play with under the new structure. Below is a graph to help you see where your child will land under the new system.

Why We Are Holding Age Group Training
These sessions are designed to support players in several important ways:
- A Comfortable Transition
Players can experience training with their future age group in a relaxed environment before the official change takes place. - Building Relationships
Players begin meeting teammates they may play with in future seasons while becoming familiar with coaches working within that age group. - Developmentally Appropriate Training
Training activities are tailored to the physical, technical, and tactical needs of that specific age group. - Increased Confidence for Players
Transitions can sometimes feel confusing for young athletes. Training with their future group early helps build familiarity and confidence.
Important Reminder:
These sessions are not tryouts or evaluations. They are simply opportunities for players to train, develop, and become comfortable with the upcoming structure while continuing to enjoy the game.
Our Goal
At Omaha Surf, our focus remains on creating an environment where players can:
- develop their skills
- enjoy the game
- grow alongside their teammates
We appreciate your support as we work together to make this transition positive and exciting for our players.
Thank you for being part of Omaha Surf Soccer Club, and we look forward to seeing everyone at training. Dates and times will be posted below once finalized.
